Track 3. Faith & Superstition
We live in a time when it feels the many of those who claim faith are keen to take on a whole load of superstitions; we run to extremes, either believe in nothing outside our immediate ken, or believe in everything. The media does not help. The wise man of verse 2 is of course C.S.Lewis, to whose written words – along with those of Malcokm Muggeridge – still resonate in thebit of me that manages to think.
The angels and the demons been going at it again
Right underneath your window
It’s a home game for the boys in red
They’re rolling up the score
Hey, voyeur on the spirit world
You’ve got hooked in on the action
Drives your poor soul to distraction
But still leaves you wanting more....
Faith and superstition
Faith and superstition
Faith and superstition
Are really not the same
Some people believe too little these days
Some people believe too much
A wise man once observed
Both of these make the devil grin
Those who see no more than the material
Laugh about his tail and his horns
And those who meet him round every corner
Either way, he just reels them in
Faith and superstition
Faith and superstition
Faith and superstition
Are really not the same
There’s one gives you firm ground to stand
One that makes it crumble
One gives the strength to walk
One gets you to stumble
One gives you clear vision
One just sets you scheming
One will let you rest in peace
One will wake you screaming
Faith and superstition
Faith and superstition
Faith and superstition
Are really not the same
So leave this behind-the-scenes stuff
Behind the scenes where it belongs
There’s some say they can handle it
Let’s just hope they’re right
Remember the plain old-fashioned words
You said in church in Sunday
Ain’t that enough for anyone?
And get some sleep tonight
