Track 4.
Why did she listen to the lies?

She felt the slow and steady turning of the world beneath her feet
And the distant ocean waves break on the land
And all created things were in the beating of the wings
Of a single dove descending to her hand
Eternity encircled in the moment as it flies
Why did she listen to the lies?

He sensed the changing season in the turning of the wind
And he heard the low insistence of the rain
The plough that cuts the dark earth, the sower’s steady tread
The whisper of the slowly-growing grain
The songs of coming harvest and the river running by
Why did he listen to the lies?

Lies are breathed through silver
Lies are breathed through gold
Lies are breathed through flesh and breathed through fear
Lies a hair’s-breadth from the truth, and lies a million miles
Lies we love and lies we dread to hear.

Her ears caught the secret song swept in the storm’s confusion
And the silence that can make sense of all sound
And all that she had found was in the voice of many waters
Of the spring that breaks up out of barren ground
The invitation of the one who in the desert cries
Why do you listen to the lies?
